Trade Union Facility Time Recording

In accordance with the Trade Union and Labour Relations (Consolidation) Act 1992, trade union officials have a statutory right to reasonable paid time off from employment to carry out trade union duties.

This includes:-

  • consultation/negotiation on terms and conditions
  • working practices
  • physical conditions of the working environment
  • recruitment
  • redeployment
  • termination of employment
  • discipline and grievance
  • induction
  • facility time
  • arrangements for consultation and negotiation
  • trade union training and to undertake responsibilities under Health and Safety legislation.

Under the Trade Union (Facility Time Publication Requirements) Regulations 2017, SPA / Police Scotland are now required to publish specified information related to paid time off provided to trade union officials for trade union duties and activities.
