Woman dies following crash on A952, Aberdeenshire, on 1 January, 2026

A woman has died following a crash on the A952 near Toll of Birness, Aberdeenshire, which happened earlier this month.

Around 1.05pm on Thursday, 1 January, 2026, emergency services attended a two-vehicle crash which involved a blue Volkswagen T-roc and a white Suzuki Ignis.

Three women, aged 81, 51 and 20, were taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary with serious injuries.

The 81-year-old woman, who can now be named as Alma Duguid from the Fraserburgh area, died in hospital on Wednesday, 21 January. The other two women were released following treatment.

Officers are reappealing for information as enquiries continue.

Sergeant Sarah Ritchie from the North East Road Policing Unit said: "Our thoughts are with the family and friends of Alma, who have requested privacy at this time. Our enquiries remain ongoing and I would appeal to anyone who witnessed the crash to please contact us.

“We’d also ask anyone who may have dash-cam footage of relevance to come forward as this may be significant in assisting with our enquiries.”
