Around 3.05pm on Thursday, 15 June, 2023, Sutherland was driving a Ford Mondeo when it was involved in a crash with a Peugeot 108 on the Condorrat Ring Road.

Margaret, who was driving the Peugeot, was taken by ambulance to Glasgow Royal Infirmary where she died on Thursday, 6 July, 2023.

A 10-year-old male passenger in the Peugeot car was taken by ambulance to the University Hospital Monklands for treatment.

The family of Margaret Allan have released a statement through Police Scotland:

“While today’s sentencing brings a measure of justice, we recognise that no outcome can ever bring our Mum back. We hope, however, that this conclusion allows us to move forward with some sense of closure.

“We as a family would like to extend our sincere thanks to Police Scotland for their professionalism, diligence, and care throughout the course of the investigation. Their commitment has been central to bringing this case to a successful conclusion.

“We also wish to acknowledge the work of the Procurator Fiscal’s office, whose professionalism and guidance throughout the judicial process have ensured the case was presented with the upmost integrity.

“Most importantly, we offer our deepest appreciation to the witnesses who came forward. Your bravery in providing evidence has played a crucial role in securing this outcome. Speaking up in such circumstances is never easy, and your courage has made a meaningful difference.”

Inspector Michael McCusker said: "Our thoughts remain with Margaret's family during this difficult time. We hope this outcome brings them some level of closure on a very traumatic incident.

"Officers undertook a significant and thorough investigation, which resulted in Sutherland's conviction. His actions displayed an utter disregard for other road users, choosing to drive a vehicle whilst disqualified, and he will now face the consequences. His actions highlight the devastating impact dangerous driving can have on lives and families.

"We remain committed to investigating all dangerous driving and will use all the tools at our disposal to hold those responsible accountable for their actions."
