Liridon Kastrati sentenced to ten years in prison for the attempted murder of a police officer

Liridon Kastrati has been sentenced to ten years in prison for the attempted murder of a police officer at the High Court in Glasgow today, Tuesday, 20 January, 2026.

The 32-year-old had been found guilty at the same court on Tuesday, 25 November, 2025.

Around 1pm on Monday, 6 May, 2024, officers were within a marked police car on Glasgow Road in the Ralston area of Paisley, when the side of their vehicle was rammed by a car being driven by Kastrati. He chased the officers while brandishing a running chainsaw, shouting and swearing at them and arrested.

Following today's sentencing, Chief Superintendent Rhona Fraser, Divisional Commander for Renfrewshire and Inverclyde, said:

“Kastrati’s actions were shocking. He will now face the consequences of these actions and my thoughts remain with those who were involved or witnessed them.

“I want to acknowledge the courage shown by our officers. Their decisive actions, and those of an equally brave member of the public, quickly stopped Kastrati and contained the threat he posed.

“Every officer has the fundamental right to come home from each shift unharmed. They were simply doing their job and this is not something they should have to face.

“The safety and well-being of our officers are priorities for Police Scotland and this incident shows the unpredictable and dangerous nature of situations they can face, while keeping our communities safe.”
