Have your say on the 2025 – 2030 Biometric Strategy
Police Scotland and the Scottish Police Authority Forensic Services (SPA FS) are inviting the public and stakeholders to share their views on the draft Biometric Strategy 2025 – 2030.
The strategy plays a vital role in delivering our 2030 Vision for policing in Scotland which is for safer communities, less crime, supported victims and a thriving workforce.
This strategy is built on the commitment of Police Scotland and SPA FS to uphold human rights, ethical oversight and transparency. It sets out how biometric data will be used responsibly to prevent harm, protect people and support safer communities.
Biometrics technologies, when deployed responsibly, can significantly support modern policing by helping officers and forensic services identify people more quickly and accurately.
Capturing and retaining biometric data - such as DNA, fingerprints and images - is essential for investigating a wide range of crimes, identifying victims and perpetrators and ruling out those not involved in criminal activity, helping to strengthen investigations and public safety.
