Fatal Crash on the A7 Midlothian
Road Policing officers are appealing for information following a fatal crash in Midlothian.
Around 12.15am on Tuesday, 20 January 2026, police received a report of a one-vehicle crash on the A7, approximately a quarter of a mile from the Eskbank Roundabout.
The car, a beige-coloured Toyota Aygo, appears to have left the road, rolled onto a grass verge and collided with a lamppost.
Emergency services attended and a 79-year-old woman was found deceased within. Her family has been notified. She was the only occupant of the car.
Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances of the incident and officers are appealing for anyone who may have seen the car between midnight and 12.15am to contact them.
Sergeant Fraser Mitchell said: “If anyone was travelling on the A7 Edinburgh to Carlisle Road around these times, I would ask them to contact us. If you have dash cam, please check the footage and pass on any images which could be relevant to our ongoing enquiries as we work to establish the full circumstances of what has happened.”
