Craig Murray jailed for serious sexual assault in Livingston

A man has been jailed for five years and six months for a serious sexual assault in West Lothian in 2023.

Craig Murray, 21, was sentenced at the High Court in Edinburgh on Monday, 19 January, 2026. He was also placed on the Sex Offenders Register and made subject to an indefinite Non-Harassment Order.

He was found guilty at the same court on Tuesday, 9 December, 2025.

The offence was committed against a teenage girl at a property in Livingston on Sunday, 1 January, 2023.

Detective Inspector Tommy Stenhouse said: “This was an extremely serious and deeply traumatic incident which has had a profound and lasting impact on the victim.

“Murray has now been held accountable and will face the consequences of his abhorrent actions. We hope that today’s outcome helps the victim in moving forward.

“Police Scotland is committed to thoroughly investigating offences of this nature and ensuring those responsible are brought to justice.

“I would encourage anyone who has experienced sexual abuse to come forward – you will be listened to, supported and treated with respect.”
