Appeal following robbery and assault of man in Wishaw

Detectives are appealing for information after a man was assaulted and robbed in Wishaw.

The incident took place around 2.35pm on Wednesday, 7 January, 2026, on Alexander Street near the sports centre.

A 25-year-old man was approached and assaulted by a group of three to four men wearing dark clothing.

The men then took his bag and necklace before making off in the direction of Belhaven Road.

Detective Constable White, Motherwell CID, said: “Thankfully the man was not injured but he was left very shaken from this attack, and we are carrying out significant enquiries to trace those responsible.

“The area would have been busy at the time, and I would ask anyone who may have witnessed the incident to get in touch with us.

“Similarly, any drivers with dash-cam footage which may assist our enquiries should also contact us.”
