Appeal following fatal crash on the A7, Scottish Borders
Road policing officers are appealing for information following a fatal one-vehicle crash in the Scottish Borders.
The crash happened around 10.30am on Thursday, 4 December, 2025, on the A7, near Fountainhall, and involved a blue Toyota Rav4.
Emergency services attended and the driver, a 66-year-old man, was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh with serious injuries. He died in Borders General Hospital on Monday, 12 January, 2026.
He can be named as Ian Weir from the Fountainhall area. His family is aware.
Mr Weir's family has released a statement through Police Scotland.
They said: "We are devastated at the loss of our much-loved brother and uncle. He will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him. We would like to ask for privacy to grieve at this difficult time."

Road Policing Constable Lisa Parker said: "Our thoughts are with the family and friends of Mr Weir and we will continue to support them while our enquiries progress.
"I'd like to thank members of the public who assisted at the scene before emergency services arrived.
"We're still keen to speak to anyone who was on the A7 around the time of the crash and saw what happened. In particular, we are yet to identify a man who stopped to provide assistance, and I would encourage them to make contact with us.
"Also, if anyone has dash-cam footage of the area, please review this and bring anything of significance to our attention."
