Appeal following fatal crash in Fife

Officers are appealing for information following a fatal crash in Fife.

Around 5.55pm on Thursday, 1 January, 2026, we were called to a report of a crash involving a white Mercedes Sprinter van and a parked and unattended Skoda Fabia on an unclassified road near Stonywynd, Boarhills.

Emergency services attended and the driver of the Mercedes, a 47-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The road was closed to allow for investigations to take place and was reopened around 10.25pm.

Sergeant Fraser Mitchell, Livingston Road Policing, said: “We are in the process of establishing the full circumstances and I would ask anyone who may have seen the Mercedes van before the crash, and is yet to speak to police, to contact us.

“I am particularly keen to speak to two men who went to help the driver.

"I would also ask any drivers in the area at the time to check their dash-cam footage as it could assist us in our investigation.”

Anyone with information is asked to call Police Scotland via 101, quoting incident number 3111 of 1 January 2026.
