Appeal following break-ins and thefts at hotels in Peebles and Innerleithen

Detectives are appealing for information after two break-ins and thefts at hotels in Innerleithen and Peebles on Friday, 2 January, 2026.

Around 1.20am, two men entered the Park Hotel on Innerleithen Road in Peebles and stole a four-figure sum of cash before making off in the direction of High Street.

Around 2.15am, the same men broke into the Traquair Arms Hotel on Traquair Road in Innerleithen. They stole a safe as well as a four-figure sum of cash.

These incidents are being treated as linked.

Both men are described as white, in their 60s, and wore dark clothing and gloves. One wore a cap and the other a beanie style hat.

Detective Constable Nicky Batten said: “Our enquiries are ongoing to identify the two men involved and trace the car they used. Officers are studying CCTV from in and around the area to gather more information.

“I would urge anyone who was in these areas early on Friday morning who has any information or personal footage which could assist our enquiries to please contact us.”
