Man who died in Wemyss Bay named

A 21-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with the death of a 33-year-old man in Wemyss Bay.

Around 12.05am on Sunday, 14 September, 2025, officers were called to a report of a man having been injured on Rothesay Gardens, Wemyss Bay. Emergency services attended, and a 33-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The deceased can be named as Raymond Cosgrove.

The 21-year-old male is due to appear at Greenock Sheriff Court on Tuesday, 16 September, 2025.

Detective Inspector Nicky Beattie said: “I’m aware this incident will be a cause of concern for people and I would like to confirm Raymond’s family is being supported by specialist officers during this time.”
