Eight arrested and charged following week of action on retail crime in Aberdeen
Eight people have been arrested and charged in connection with shoplifting in Aberdeen following a week of action by officers in the city to tackle retail crime.
From Monday, 25 August, officers from the Community Action Team carried out patrols and also provided advice to various stores that had seen repeat thefts.
Five men and three women aged between 20 and 43 were traced in connection with 46 shoplifting incidents. They have been reported to the Procurator Fiscal.
Various items stolen were recovered including clothing, food and domestic goods.
A further three people, a man aged 39 and two women aged 28 and 31, were traced and arrested on outstanding warrants relating to various offences.
Officers also stopped and searched two men, aged 32 and 18, who were found in possession of controlled drugs. They were given recorded police warnings.
Sergeant Mark Rennie said: “Retail crime has a serious impact on businesses and it will not be tolerated. We will continue to work to stamp out this kind of activity and take enforcement action when those responsible are traced.
