Man sentenced to 13 years in prison for attempted murder of shopkeeper in Inverness
A man has been sentenced to 13 years in prison for the attempted murder of an 84-year-old shop worker in Inverness.
Richard Wilson, 28, was convicted of attempted murder, assault and robbery after pleading guilty at The High Court in Inverness on Tuesday, 5 August, 2025.
He was sentenced at The High Court in Glasgow today, Monday, 1 September, 2025.
Wilson carried out the attack on the 84-year-old man while he was working at a premises in Torvean Avenue on 12 March, 2024.
Detective Inspector Caroline Mackay said: “This was an extremely vicious and despicable display of violence against an elderly shop worker.
"The man suffered serious injuries and the long-term recovery time, as well as the emotional trauma caused by this attack, cannot be underestimated.
"We would like to thank the local community for their support during our investigation, in particular a woman who came to the aid of the elderly shop worker.
"I hope this sentence sends a clear message that violence is completely unacceptable.
"Police Scotland are committed to bringing perpetrators to justice and we will continue to work closely with our partners to do so."
