On Thursday, 27 November, 2025, officers from Police Scotland’s Road Policing Unit in North Highland carried out a dedicated day of action on the A9.

The initiative combined educational engagement with enforcement activity, focusing on the importance of preparing vehicles for winter conditions and ensuring they remain in a roadworthy state.

The operation also supported the ongoing Fatal 5 campaign, which targets the most common causes of serious collisions: speeding, careless driving, driving under the influence, not wearing seatbelts and using mobile phones while driving.

Throughout the day, a number of vehicles were stopped and drivers engaged in discussions about winter safety and legal requirements. As a result of the checks, eight drivers were reported for various offences and one vehicle was prohibited from further use due to being in an unsafe condition.

Police Scotland urges all motorists to take time to check their vehicles before travelling this winter and to drive responsibly to keep themselves and others safe.
