Police Scotland launch consultation to dispose of Salen police station
Police Scotland is asking members of the public to give their views on a proposal to dispose of Salen police station.
Salen police station has seen very limited use in recent years. There is a police house adjoined to the station, which was occupied until the end of 2023. The officer who lived there has since moved to another police property within Salen and the old house has remained vacant. Maintaining underutilised buildings place an unnecessary cost on policing.
Local Area Commander, Chief Inspector Lee Page: “Our officers are already operating effectively from other stations on Mull, with Craignure and Tobermory providing cover for the Salen area. Our police stations serve as a base for officers, where they begin and end their shift. Our officers spend the majority of their shift out in the community.
“The new police house in Salen will remain in place, ensuring a continued local presence in the village. If our proposal goes ahead, there would be no change to the level of service or response to the community. Officers would continue to patrol and respond to incidents as they always have.”
We are keen to gather the views of the local community on these proposals prior to making a final decision, so we are launching a public consultation on our Engagement Hub - Estate Transformation: Local Area Consultations - Police Scotland - Citizen Space.
The consultation will close on Thursday, 4 December, 2025.
