Plans approved to demolish Rutherglen police station
In August 2025, officers and staff relocated from the Rutherglen station to Cambuslang police station, following the significant deterioration of the building which meant it was no longer a suitable working environment.
Lanarkshire Division's Superintendent Julie Davenport said: “Rutherglen police station is currently vacant and has reached the end of its usable lifespan, making it no longer economically viable to maintain.
“After careful evaluation and consideration of various options by our Estates team and given the condition of the building, we have decided to demolish Rutherglen police station.
“We have decided to retain the site as work continues on the development of our Estates Masterplan. Preliminary preparations for the demolition are underway.
"We will ensure that any work is carried out safely and with minimal disruption to the surrounding area.”
Officers and staff were moved to Cambuslang police station, two miles from Rutherglen police station, in August 2025.
The front counter at Cambuslang police station is open to the public 8am - 6pm, Monday to Sunday.
