New recruits sign up for a job like no other
The latest cohort of probationary constables were issued with their warrant cards at swearing-in ceremonies across the country yesterday, Thursday, 6 November, 2025.
The 165 officers made the declaration of a constable in front of members of Police Scotland’s Chief Officer Team.
There are 112 males and 53 females in this latest intake, bringing officer establishment to 16,532.

Deputy Chief Constable Bex Smith addressed the new recruits at a ceremony in Police Scotland’s Headquarters, Tulliallan, while Director of Human Resources, Katy Miller welcomed the probationers at a ceremony in Fettes Police Station, Edinburgh.

DCC Smith said: “I thank our new recruits for stepping forward to help safeguard our communities.
“They are taking on the responsibilities and duties of a police officer – a job like no other where people will turn to them for help, often in the most critical and vulnerable circumstances.
“When these officers deploy to communities they will uphold Police Scotland’s values of integrity, fairness, respect and a commitment to upholding human rights at all times.”
There are 17 recruits with previous military service and 18 with additional language skills including French, Bengali, Gaelic and Afrikaans.
The officers will deploy to communities on 9 March, 2026, following the first stage of their two-year probationer training.
