Man sentenced for romance fraud and embezzlement in Glasgow

A 53-year-old man has been sentenced to 22 months in prison for romance fraud and embezzlement in Glasgow.

Andrew Polson was found guilty at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Wednesday, 22 October, 2025, of defrauding a woman of £188,000 after convincing her to provide money under the false premise of investing in property with him. He was also found guilty of embezzling over £9000 from a charity-funded community radio station where he served as a director. He was sentenced at the same court on Wednesday, 19 November, 2025. 

Detective Chief Inspector Jamie Campbell said: “Polson abused the trust placed in him and acted dishonestly to gain substantial sums of money from his victim and from a charity. 

“This case illustrates how personal relationships can be exploited for financial gain and the harm this can cause. 

“Police Scotland remains committed to thoroughly investigating financial crimes and bringing those responsible to account.”
