Man jailed for Hawick stabbing

A 42-year-old man has been jailed for seven years for stabbing a man in Hawick.
Paul Weller Aires pleaded guilty at the High Court in Edinburgh on Wednesday, 5 November, 2025, to the attack on the 43-year-old on Teviot Crescent on Wednesday, 26 March.
Detective Constable Francois of Galashiels CID said: “Aires attacked the victim while he was walking his dog, leaving him with serious injuries. He showed no regard for the man’s life and this incident could have had a much worse outcome. Thankfully, the victim was able to quickly get medical attention.
“Aires now faces the consequences of his actions.
“We are committed to tackling all forms of violent crime and the use of offensive weapons. They have a negative influence on our communities and can have a devastating impact on the lives of victims, their families and those who use them. We continue to work with partners to make our communities safer.”
