Launch of Operation Winter City 2025
Police in Edinburgh will be providing an enhanced presence within the city-centre over the coming weeks as part of their annual campaign to keep the public safe throughout the festive period.
Operation Winter City 2025 launched on Friday, 14 November and will run until Sunday, 4 January 2026. Officers from the Capital, as well as neighbouring divisions, will carry out high-visibility patrols to offer reassurance to the public who are visiting, or work within the city centre area.
In addition to local resources a range of specialist units including Road Policing, CID and specialist Evidence Gathering Teams can be called upon to support Operation Winter City, if required.
Chief Inspector Craig Rogerson, Gold Commander for Operation Winter City, said: “Anyone who’s ever visited Edinburgh over the festive period knows just how amazing the city is at this time of year.
“That’s why it’s important that our policing response is appropriate and proportionate to meet the demand of the additional visitors to the Capital, but to also reflect the very special atmosphere that is generated during Christmas and New Year.
“Local officers will be supported by colleagues from neighbouring divisions during patrols throughout the city-centre and anyone requiring assistance is welcome to come and speak to them, whether it’s to report a crime, or request information.
“Planning for Operation Winter City started several months ago and we’ve been working with key partners to ensure festive events taking place can do so safely.
“On behalf of everyone within Edinburgh Division, I wish you all a safe, secure, and Merry Christmas.”
