Joint operation with Road Policing and DVSA to keep Highlands roads safe

Road Policing officers in the Highlands have carried out joint working with colleagues from the Driving and Vehicle Standards Agency as part of a focused operation targeting commercial vehicle road safety.
The checks were carried out in Inverness on Wednesday, 12 November and Thursday, 13 November, 2025. The teams carried out a series of roadside checks on commercial and light goods vehicles to ensure they were safe, compliant, and fit for the road.
During the operation, 34 heavy and light goods vehicles were stopped and of them 19 prohibitions and 10 fixed penalties were issued. These related to vehicle defects, vehicles exceeding maximum permitted weights, tachograph offences and certification offences. Five drivers were charged with driving with dangerous loads, tyre offences and failing to comply with construction and use requirements.
Sergeant Calum MacAulay, Road Policing said: “Joint working with DVSA allows us to share skills when carrying out roadside checks. We work together to take proportionate action that directly contributes to road safety in our communities.
“Operators have a clear responsibility to ensure vehicles and drivers are compliant, and their commitment to this is essential in keeping Highland roads safe for everyone.”
