Two men sentenced in connection with drug offences in Lerwick
Two men have been sentenced in relation to drugs offences in Lerwick.
Nigel Scott and Matthew Smith, both 50, were found guilty at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on 4 April, 2025 of being concerned in the supply of heroin.
On Tuesday, 6 May, they were sentenced to five years in prison at The High Court in Edinburgh.
On 24 May, 2021 the pair were stopped in their vehicle in the Sandveien area of Lerwick. Officers searched their van and found over 2kg of heroin with an estimated street value of £135,000.
Detective Inspector Calum Reid, North Highland CID, said: “This sentencing reflects our continued commitment to tackling the illegal supply of drugs in the Shetland Isles.
“Information from the public is crucial in helping us to combat those involved in drugs activity in our communities. It is only as a community working together that we can tackle drug dealing activity.
