Edward Stanton jailed for 15 years for non-recent sexual and physical abuse at residential care homes in Lanarkshire.
A man who sexually and physically abused vulnerable young people while working at residential care homes in Lanarkshire has been jailed.
Edward Stanton (73) was sentenced to 15 years at the High Court in Aberdeen today, Monday, 30 June, 2025. He was found guilty of 11 charges, including rape, on 21 May, 2025 following a trial at the High Court in Glasgow.
The 73-year-old targeted a total of 10 victims, aged between six to 22 years between May 1985 and April 1994.
Detective Sergeant Ruth Whyte said:
"Edward Stanton abused his position of trust and power over a nine-year period and now faces the consequences of his despicable actions.
“I know how difficult it can be to report these types of crimes and would like to commend his victims for their strength in coming forward during the investigation. Their information was essential in helping us build the case against him and I hope this outcome provides them with some sense of closure.
“I would urge anyone who has been a victim of physical or sexual abuse to report it to us, regardless of when it happened. All reports are thoroughly investigated, and we have specially trained officers and partner agencies who will support you throughout."
