First of two new police hubs operational in Aberdeen
Police Scotland in Aberdeen have completed the first of two response policing hubs, which are to replace four smaller stations in the city.
In August 2024, Police Scotland announced plans to create two response policing hubs in the city with one at Woodhill House and the other at the existing police station at Nigg.
Internal works carried out at Nigg to accommodate the transfer of local officers from Torry and Rosemount was recently completed and officers have been successfully deploying from Nigg to incidents across the South of the city for a number of weeks.
Chief Inspector Vicky Stables Local Area Commander for Aberdeen South said: “Having lots of small teams spread across the city restricted information sharing and learning and also impacted on the wellbeing of our staff.
“Officers transferred to the new hub at Nigg recently and they are pleased to now be based in a larger building with more colleagues and greater facilities.
“We are already seeing benefits from having more officers at Nigg, particularly from those who are younger in service, who gain valuable insight and guidance from their more experienced colleagues. We’re also seeing benefits from officers sharing useful information that has helped progress inquiries and investigations.
“As officers are fully mobile with digital devices and modern vehicles, officers can easily get around Torry, Tullos, Cove, Nigg and Kincorth throughout the day to attend incidents or appointments without the need to return to Nigg, but when they do, the facilities available and additional team members enable them to work more effectively than in smaller offices.”
Torry police station will now be marketed for sale and the lease on Rosemount police station will be terminated.
The Police Scotland Estates Masterplan directly contributes to the organisation’s 2030 vision and aims to deliver a more effective and sustainable estate that enables modern policing to protect and serve local communities, supports the health, safety and wellbeing of officers and staff and reduces long term operating costs.
Divisional Support Chief Inspector Simon Reid, added: “Work remains ongoing to create a new local policing hub at Woodhill House within the annexe. Once completed, local policing teams from Mastrick and Whinhill will be transferred to the new hub. We anticipate that this may be later this financial year.
“For the public there will be no outward visible changes to the service they receive. Officers will continue to be active, visible and accessible. However bringing the teams together at Nigg and latterly Woodhill House will bring efficiencies in how officers work, which will provide a more effective policing service for our communities.”
