Appeal after teenager dies in A78 crash in Ayrshire

Road policing officers are appealing for witnesses after a fatal crash on the A78 in North Ayrshire.

The incident involved an e-scooter and an ambulance and happened around 2.35am on Monday, 28 July, 2025 on the southbound carriageway between the Pennyburn Roundabout and the junction with the B779 at Kilwinning.

The 19-year-old male rider of the scooter was pronounced dead at the scene.

No one from the ambulance was injured.

The road was closed until around 8.45am and has since fully reopened.

Sergeant Jim Dewar said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the man who has died and everyone affected by this crash.

“Our enquiries into the circumstances are ongoing and I would urge anyone with information or who may have dashcam footage from around the time to get in touch.
