Twelve drivers arrested in connection with road traffic offences in the North East
Police Scotland is reminding motorists of the importance of road safety after twelve drivers were arrested in connection with drink and drug driving offences.
The offences happened between 9pm on Friday, 12 December and 4pm on Sunday, 14 December, 2025.
Eight drivers were arrested and charged in connection with drink driving and four drivers were arrested in connection with drug driving and enquiries are ongoing.
Inspector Steve Manson of the Road Policing Unit said: “The fact that twelve people were detected over a two-day period shows that the message is still not getting through to a minority of people who continue to put themselves and others at risk.
“Seven of the eight drink drivers were detected between 11pm and 4am.
“As we approach the busy festive period, we are encouraging people to think before they even start driving, please plan how you intend to get home and make sure you don’t drive the following day until you are completely sure the alcohol is out of your system.
“We are continuing with road checks and undertaking both high visibility and unmarked patrols as part of the Festive Drink Drug Drive Campaign.”
