Murder investigation launched following the death of Jordan Gray

A murder investigation has been launched following the death of a man in Motherwell. 

Around 4.30pm on Monday, 15 December, 2025, officers were called to a flat in Shields Court, where the body of a 26-year-old man was discovered. It is believed he died between Sunday night and the early hours of Monday morning. 

He can now be named as Jordan Gray. His family has released the following statements via Police Scotland: 

From Jordan's mother, Lynn Gray, and Michael Groome: "We as a family are devastated at the loss of Jordan. We would appreciate some privacy and time to grieve. If anyone has any information please come forward."

From Jordan's father John Lindsay: "Jordan was a loving and doting father and son. Please if anyone has any information, however large or small, contact police."

Following a post-mortem examination, Jordan’s death is being treated as murder. It has been confirmed he suffered fatal injuries consistent with being shot by a firearm. 

Detective Superintendent Grant Hendry, Major Investigation Team, said: “Our thoughts are with Jordan’s family and friends at what is an extremely difficult time. We are offering them support as our investigation progresses. 

“Extensive enquiries are ongoing and we have a dedicated team of specialist officers working through all lines of enquiry. 

“I’d like to thank the community for their support and information so far. It may be that details of who is responsible for Jordan’s death are known in the local area, and I appeal directly to anyone who knows or has heard something, to report it to us.

“We continue to ask for information on a person seen in the Shields Court area around 10.35pm on Sunday night. They were wearing a dark jacket with the hood up and dark trousers. Anyone with information on this person is urged to contact the investigation team.”

Local Area Commander, Chief Inspector Steven Conn, said: “Incidents like this in our community are shocking but rare. With the assistance of the Major Investigation Team, we’re doing all we can to get answers for Jordan’s family.
