Man who died in Baillieston named

A man who died after being found injured in Baillieston can be named as William Cherry, aged 74.

Around 5.50pm on Friday, 5 December, 2025, we received a report of a man with serious injuries on Maxwell Street, near to its junction with Main Street.

Emergency services attended, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Following a postmortem examination, it has been established that he died after being struck by a vehicle.


William's family have released the following statement:


"A devoted father and grandfather, he was known for his friendly nature, long walks with his dog Milo, and for helping others. A local man and retired bus driver, with a heart of gold and described by many as a true gentleman. He will be sorely missed by many."


The investigation is ongoing, but officers are following a positive line of enquiry.

Officers are continuing to appeal to the public and urge anyone who may have witnessed the incident or a vehicle driving dangerously in the surrounding area to come forward.

Detective Sergeant Graham Clarke said: “Our thoughts remain with William’s family and friends at this very difficult time, and our enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.

“We now know that William died as a result of being struck by a car, and I’d ask that anyone in the local area please think back to whether they witnessed a crash or a vehicle driving dangerously that evening.

“I’d also ask that people review their private CCTV and dash-cam footage to see if it has captured anything of significance that could assist with our investigation.
