Positive line of enquiry following report of hate crime at football match in Elgin

Extensive enquiries are ongoing following a report of a hate crime at a football match in Elgin.

Police were made aware of a supporter approaching a player from the sideline during the Elgin City vs Edinburgh City football match on Saturday, 23 August, 2025.

This is being investigated as a hate crime.

Inspector Andy Meikleham, Elgin Police Office, said: "This was a despicable action and we are now following a positive line of enquiry.

"Anyone with information is asked to call Police Scotland on 101 quoting reference CR/0358662/25."
