Man jailed for causing death by dangerous driving in a crash in Ayrshire
A 31-year-old man has been jailed following a fatal crash on the A70 at Ochiltree in East Ayrshire in 2024.
Blair Jardine was sentenced to four years and eight months at the High Court in Edinburgh on Friday, 1 August, 2025, having previously pled guilty to causing death by dangerous driving and causing serious injury by dangerous driving.
The incident happened around 1.30pm on Tuesday, 4 June, 2024, and involved a MG car and an HGV driven by Jardine.
An 88-year-old woman, who was a passenger in the car, was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow where she died on Monday, 10 June. The driver of the car, a 59-year-old woman, was also taken to hospital with serious injuries.
Sergeant Gordon Stewart said: “This was a completely avoidable crash that had devastating consequences for the family and loved ones of both women. Jardine’s actions showed a clear disregard for the safety of others on the road.
“We hope this outcome brings some degree of closure to the families of those involved and serves as a stark reminder of the responsibility every road user to drive in safe manner.”
