Man arrested following report of bogus workman in Bearsden
A man has been arrested and charged with fraud following a report of bogus workmen in Bearsden.
Around noon on Thursday, 28 August, 2025, police received a report of an 85-year-old potentially being the victim of a £31,000 fraud scheme.
Officers attended the Ferguston Road area and a 26-year-old man was arrested in connection.
He was charged and is due to appear at Dumbarton Sheriff Court on Friday, 29 August, 2025.
Enquiries remain ongoing.
Detective Chief Inspector David Bell said: “Targeting elderly people at home is a despicable crime and our enquiries are ongoing.
"Be suspicious of anyone arriving unannounced at your door. Householders should ensure that doors are secure, even when at home and use a door chain. Do not let anyone in until you are certain of who they are, or who they claim to represent.
"Neighbours should look out for one another – particularly if they have elderly or vulnerable neighbours. Report any suspicious activity to us.”
