Man jailed for sexual offences in Aberdeenshire between 2018 and 2023
A 43-year-old man has been jailed for four years for sexual offences in the Aberdeenshire area between 2018 and 2023.
Alan Moir pleaded guilty at the High Court in Edinburgh in March to a number of offences, including the sexual assault of a child as well as taking and distributing indecent images, between January, 2018 and November, 2023.
He was sentenced on Tuesday, 8 April, 2025, at the same court.
Moir was identified after intelligence linked his email address to the sharing of the images online. Officers executed a warrant at his home address and seized electronic devices which contained thousands of indecent images of both adults and children.
Detective Inspector Ryan Morris said: “By admitting to these horrific offences over a significant period of time, Moir has proved he is a sexual predator and now faces the consequences.
“Working with our partner agencies we were able to identify his online footprint and expose the level of offending he is responsible for.
“Offenders cannot hide behind the internet. We have specially trained officers and cybercrime teams to track them down.
“I’d urge anyone who has been a victim of a sexual offence or anyone with information about those involved in such crimes, to come forward and report it to us, regardless of when it happened. All reports are fully investigated.”
