Man guilty of murdering pensioner in Forfar

A 32-year-old man has pleaded guilty at the High Court in Edinburgh to the murder of a 90-year-old man.

On Tuesday, 6 December, 2022 police were alerted to the death of William Yule in Hillside Road, Forfar. Officers attended and quickly arrested Alan Graham Massie a short distance from the home of Dr Yule

The investigation established that Massie had entered the home of Dr Yule on 6 December and subjected him to a sustained attack. He was left with severe injuries and died at the scene.

Dr Yule was a retired GP and very well-known in the area. The nature of his death shocked the whole community.

Detective Inspector Craig Ross from the Major Investigations Team said: “The pain someone feels when losing a loved one in such circumstances is unimaginable. I hope today’s outcome can bring some degree of closure to the family and friends of Dr Yule. I would also like to thank the local community for their support and co-operation throughout the investigation process. No-one’s life should be cut short and it’s fitting that the person responsible for Dr Yule’s death is being held to account for his actions.”
