Police Scotland's Care Experienced Group collaboration with Who Cares Scotland
In support of our Corporate Parenting Plan 2021-2024, Police Scotland is sharing a new animation produced by Who Cares? Scotland.
The film showcases the incredible work of Police Scotland's Care Experienced officers and staff group.
The animation is narrated by Who Cares? Scotland member, Tia, who is in the process of applying to be an officer with Police Scotland.
Care includes when a child or young person has spent time living in foster care, kinship care, those who were looked after at home, in residential care, and secure care, or spent time with prospective adopters.
Supported by the Children and Young People team, PPCW and with the expert guidance of Who Cares? Scotland, a national organisation which works with care experienced young people and care leavers across Scotland, officers and staff with lived experience of care from across the organisation came together to form the Care Experienced officers and staff group, and members are featured in the animation.
The group has been empowered to speak on behalf of those with care experience, sharing their own experiences growing up and providing the unique perspective of having care experience and working in Police Scotland.
The views and experiences of the group have not only helped us to better understand our care community but have provided valuable and insightful direction and guidance on our role as Corporate Parents. This has influenced policy and practice and is ensuring we positively contribute towards a care system which prioritises a child's need for a happy childhood, and results in positive experiences and outcomes.
The animation showcases the commitment of the group in ensuring Police Scotland leads the way as a Corporate Parent and will be shared by Who Cares? Scotland on its social media channels as a model of best practice for other Corporate Parents.
Together with the Care Experienced officers and staff group we will continue to ensure we take a children's rights based approach in all that we do now and in the future to ensure we keep The Promise.
