Alan joined Central Scotland Police in 1997 and worked across a variety of roles, including CID, road policing and emergency planning, going on to become Area Commander for Falkirk.
Upon being promoted to Superintendent, Alan undertook a number of corporate and change roles, including the remodelling of C3 Division.
In 2018, he was appointed Divisional Commander for Lanarkshire, and worked closely with partners throughout the pandemic, and in Community Planning Partnerships, to deliver better outcomes for communities through effective collaboration.
As Chief Superintendent, Alan led the Emergency, Events and Resilience Planning department since 2022.
He is an experienced Strategic Firearms Commander, and Gold Public Order Commander, and was Silver Commander for the delivery of Operation Unicorn.
He was promoted to Assistant Chief Constable in March 2025.
