Police and Federation Pipe Band Perform Alongside Andre Rieu
The Police Scotland and Federation Pipe Band recently performed alongside legendary violinist Andre Rieu in front of a packed crowd in Glasgow.
After the production team for Andre Rieu’s concerts contacted the band via their official website, they appeared on stage at the OVO Hydro arena alongside Andre and his Johann Strauss Orchestra on Friday 26 and Saturday 27 May to the 18,000 ticket holders in attendance over both evenings.
The band played four pieces of music, which included Scotland the Brave and Highland Cathedral. Drum Major, Kara Gilmour, the current world champion Drum Major, gave a short performance and in doing so became the first Drum Major to perform at an Andre Rieu concert.
PC Duncan Nicholson Pipe Sergeant and Secretary for the Police Scotland and Federation Pipe Band, said: “It was a real honour to appear on stage with Andre Rieu, who has been an icon within live music for several decades.
“The band had a wonderful time and were made to feel very welcome by Andre and his orchestra and we’ve since been inundated with messages of support from many who were in attendance and told us how much they enjoyed the concerts.
“I know it was also a very proud moment for Kara Gilmour, who became the first ever Drum Major to perform alongside Andre and I’m sure it’s an occasion she’ll never forget.”
