Warning and appeal after cars stolen in morning 'frost-jacking'
Officers in central Fife are appealing for information and reminding owners to be vigilant following the theft of three vehicles while defrosting.
Between 8am and 8.50am on Friday, 21 November, 2025, three cars were taken from outside properties.
The first was an Audi A3 in Glenrothes, which was reported around 8am and was traced in Kirkcaldy a short time later.
The second was a black Hyundai i40 in Kinghorn, Burntisland, reported around 8.40am.
The third was a blue BMW X3 on Abbots Walk, Kirkcaldy, which was reported around 8.50am and traced nearby a short time later.
Detective Inspector Sammi Davidson said: “Our enquiries are ongoing into these incidents and I am appealing for anyone with any information which may assist us to contact us.
“The owners of these vehicles had left them unattended while the engine was running in order to defrost the car.
“With temperatures to expected to remain low I would urge residents not to leave their cars unattended as it only takes seconds for an opportunist to take the vehicle.
“I would encourage people to use other options including covering windscreens at night or using manual scrapers or de-icing products.”
Anyone with any information is asked to contact 101 quoting incident 0727 of 21 November, 2025.
