Continued appeal to help trace man missing from Melrose
Officers in the Scottish Borders are continuing to appeal for the help of the public to trace a 75-year-old man.
Thomas Johnstone was last seen around 10.30am on Friday, 8 May, 2025, in Melrose Town Centre and it is believed he could be in the south of England.
He is white, 6ft1 in height, of a medium/heavy build, has grey facial hair and short grey hair. He was wearing a striped polo shirt, a blue jacket and grey trousers when we went missing.
He also goes by the surname Vanhalbec and has a well spoken English accent.
Sergeant Craig Russell, Galashiels Police Station, said: “We are increasingly concerned for Thomas's welfare.
"Thomas, although mobile and can travel a distance, does have what has been described as a laboured or hunched walk.
“He has access to a money and a bus pass and we believe he may be in the Sussex area of England.
“We would ask anyone with information as to his whereabouts, or who may have seen someone they think may be him to contact is as soon as possible.”
Information can be passed to police via 101. Please quote incident number 3914 of Friday, 9 May when calling.”
