Man who died following a disturbance in Ayr named
The 42-year-old man who died following a disturbance in Ayr on Saturday, 5 July, 2025 can now be named as Mark Blackwood.
Around 8.10pm on Saturday, 5 July, 2025, officers were called to a report of a man found seriously injured in a flat in Glenmuir Place.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
A post-mortem examination has taken place, and his death is now being treated as murder.
Extensive enquiries are being carried out by detectives and specialist resources to establish the full circumstances of the incident.
His family are aware and are being supported by officers. They have asked that their privacy is respected.
Detective Inspector Steven Slater said: “Our thoughts are with Mark's family and friends at this very difficult time.
"It is vital that we get answers for them and we are fully committed to this.
"An extensive investigation is ongoing and officers are following a number of lines of enquiry.
“Additional officers remain in the area, and I would encourage anyone who has concerns, or any information, to approach them.
“I continue to appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time and saw anything that could assist with our investigation to get in touch by contacting Police Scotland on 101 quoting incident number 3237 of 5 July, 2025.”
