Fatal road crash on A70, near Carnwath

A 49 year-old man has died following a road crash on the A70 near Carnwath on Thursday, 7 November, 2019.

Around 4.15pm on Thursday afternoon, the 49 year-old man was driving a Ford Connect van on the A70 near Carnwath, when it was involved in a collision with a Mazda 6 car being driven in the opposite direction.

Emergency services attended, however the driver of the Ford Connect van was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 41 year-old driver of the Mazda was taken by ambulance to Wishaw General Hospital.  Hospital staff describe his condition as stable.

Sergeant John Tait of the Divisional Road Policing Unit based at Motherwell said:  “I am appealing to any witnesses to the crash and to anyone with information that may help our ongoing investigation to contact us.

“I would also like to hear from anyone who was driving on the A70 near Carnwath around the time of the crash on Thursday afternoon to come forward to officers, as they may hold information that will assist our enquiry.”
