Motorcyclist seriously injured in Sutherland collision

Police Scotland is appealing for witnesses following a serious road traffic collision involving a motorcycle on the A838 north of Lairg.

The incident happened around 6.15pm on Wednesday, May 15 approximately five miles south of the Overscaig House Hotel by Loch Shin.

The collision involved a single vehicle - a BMW motorcycle - ridden by a 77-year-old man.

He was taken to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness for treatment to serious injuries.

The road was closed for around five and a half hours to allow road policing officers to carry out an investigation at the scene.

Sergeant Gus Murray said: "Our enquiries into this collision are ongoing and I would urge anyone who believe s they have information which could assist to make contact.

"The road closure required a lengthy diversion and I would thank drivers for their patience while we carried out our work."
