Road Policing Officers based at Dumbarton are appealing for any information following a fatal road crash on the A82 at Dumbarton on Friday 19 July 2019.
Around 9.15am on Friday morning, a 74-year-old man was driving a Land Rover car eastbound on the A82 Stirling to Dumbarton Road. At a point near to Dunbritton Road, it appears that the vehicle went out of control, crossed the central reservation and struck a Volkswagen Passat car being driven in the opposite direction.
Emergency services attended and the 74 year-old driver of the Land Rover was taken by ambulance to the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley where he is being treated for his injuries. He was not seriously injured.
The 67-year-old female passenger from the Land Rover was taken by ambulance to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow but unfortunately died this afternoon from her injuries.
A report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.
The 53-year-old driver of the Volkswagen was treated at the scene for his injuries and did not require hospital treatment.
Sergeant Archie McGuire of the Road Policing Department at Dumbarton is carrying out an investigation into the crash and appealing for information.
He is asking for any witnesses to this incident, or anyone driving on this road around the time of the crash who has dash-cam footage, to contact police as a matter of urgency.
