Hello, and welcome to the latest edition of Weekly Roundup, bringing you the best in Scottish policing news from the past seven days.
Another addition to our executive team this week with the swearing in of new Deputy Chief Constable Will Kerr on Tuesday, who said of his appointment, "I am very honoured to be taking up this role at Police Scotland and look forward to contributing to the work already under way to ensure we continue to offer the highest quality of policing to the people we serve."
Also this week, we had a whole raft of new officers joining the fight against crime at today's Passing Out Parade at the Scottish Police College, and new recruit PC Lloyd Bailey topped the day off in style by proposing to his partner.
Meanwhile, East Lothian's Community Action Team have arrested three people after seizing almost £10k of drugs and cash in the last week; a man has been arrested and charged in connection with a serious sexual assault in Dumfries, and motorcycle initiative Operation Armour has seen 60 people charged and 70 vehicles seized in Aberdeen City.
In other news, the latest statistics show that the North East has seen a significant decrease in incidents of violence and break-ins. Chief Superintendent Campbell Thomson said, “This should send a clear message – that if you choose to get involved in violent offending you will be caught and reported to the Procurator Fiscal. The reductions are also influenced by residents taking basic home and personal security measures and reporting suspicious activity. However we cannot be complacent and there remains work to be done to educate home and vehicle owners of the need to be vigilant. I would take this opportunity to again urge people to follow basic crime prevention measures including simply ensuring your property is always locked and secure.”
And finally, our Twitter channel posted a behind the scenes look at our specialist sniffer dogs doing some on the job training on Monday.
That's it for this week. Stay safe, have a great weekend, and we'll see you again next Friday.
