Theft of heating oil from primary school in Aberdeenshire

Officers in Ellon are appealing for information into a theft of heating oil from a primary school that resulted in its closure yesterday.

Sometime between Thursday 4 January and Wednesday 10 January approximately 2,000 litres of heating oil was stolen from an oil tank at Methlick Primary School on School Brae in Methlick.

The value of the oil taken is estimated to be worth a mid three figure sum of money.

Investigating Officer PC Kerr Baptie said: "This incident resulted in the school requiring to close at short notice which would have caused great inconvenience to staff, parents and pupils. I am appealing to anyone who may have seen anything suspicious or usual in the area between last Thursday and yesterday to get in touch.

"Anyone with information is asked to call Police Scotland on 101 quoting reference 0730 of 10 Jan. Alternatively to remain anonymous call the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
