Large scale disturbance in Newton Stewart

Officers in Newton Stewart are appealing to the public to help them identify those involved in what has been described as a large scale disturbance in the town on Saturday night.

About 11.55pm on Saturday 27 January 2018 police received a report of a fight ongoing near to the Galloway Arms Hotel in Victoria Street in the town.

Inspector Gavin McHallum at Newton Stewart said, "On police arrival the group had dispersed. Witnesses spoken to so far have intimated that as many as up to 20 people, both male and female were involved in the disorder, which included fighting.

"I would ask anyone who may have witnessed this event, or who may have even been caught up in it to get in touch with us at Newton Stewart on the 101 number.

"At this stage I have no reports of anyone being injured in this incident. We are reviewing CCTV in the town at this time."
