Identity confirmed of driver who died near Thurso

Police Scotland can now confirm the identity of the man who died in a road traffic collision near Thurso on Saturday, December 1.

He was James Connor Cook, 19, from the Bettyhill area.

His family has issued the following statement through Police Scotland:

"It is with great sorrow we announce the sudden death of our son Connor, aged 19. 

"Beloved son of James and Mary, brother of Tori and Erin and friend to many in Sutherland and Caithness."

Mr Cook was the driver and sole occupant of a purple Ford Fiesta which was involved in a collision on the unclassified Hill of Forss road around half a mile from the A836 junction.

The incident was reported to police shortly before 11.10pm on Saturday, December 1.

No other vehicles were involved.

Road Policing Sergeant Alan Henderson said: "Our thoughts are with Connor's family and friends at this difficult time.

"Our enquiries into the incident are ongoing and I would urge anyone who can help the investigation but has not yet spoken to police to get in touch.
