Appeal after break-ins to honesty boxes at Fife car parks

Officers are appealing for information following thefts from a number of honesty boxes across Fife.

Between Wednesday, 4 March, and Thursday, 5 March, 2026, three boxes were broken into at Birnie and Gaddon Loch car park, Aberdour Silver Sands car park and East Lomond car park.

Whilst an honesty box at Limekilns Promenade car park was also broken into between Thursday, 12 March, and Friday, 13 March, 2026.

The incidents are being treated as linked and an investigation is underway, including CCTV enquiries.

Sergeant Mike Wishart, from Cupar Police Station, said: “These honesty boxes are in place to benefit a charity, and it is extremely disappointing for a person, or persons, to so brazenly steal from them.

“We are asking for anyone who was at any of these car parks on the dates in question and may have seen anything suspicious to come forward, or have potential dash-cam footage, to please come forward.”

Anyone with information should contact police on 101, quoting incident 0078 of 10 March. Alternatively, you can call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, if you wish to remain anonymous.”
