Man charged following break-ins and vehicle thefts in Scottish Borders

Officers have charged a 24-year-old man following extensive enquiries into a series of thefts in the Scottish Borders.

The three incidents took place at locations in Galashiels, Duns and Kelso, between May 2023 and May 2024.

The total value of vehicles and equipment stolen was estimated to be over £200,000, with a number of the vehicles being subsequently recovered in County Durham.

Further enquiries remain ongoing and the man is expected to appear at court at a later date.

Detective Constable Callum Wood, from Hawick’s Proactive Crime Team, said: “We’d like to thank the public for their assistance with our ongoing enquiries into these incidents and reassure them that acquisitive crime remains a local priority we are committed to.

“If anyone has any concerns about criminality in their area, they can report this to police on 101, or 999 in an emergency.”
