Man who died in M74 crash near Abington named

A 45-year-old motorcyclist who died in a crash on the M74 near Abington on Friday, 27 September 2024, has been named.

He was James Martin from the Linwood area. His family has asked for privacy.



They have issued the following statement: “We would like to thank Lanarkshire Road Policing and everyone who stopped to help and all other emergency services who attended.

“James was a proud motorcyclist and will be missed by everyone who knew him.”

The incident happened around 6.40pm near junction 13, northbound, and involved a black Harley Davidson motorcycle and a blue Ford Focus car.

Mr Martin was pronounced dead at the scene. The car driver was not injured.

Sergeant Andrew Coutts said: “Our thoughts remain with the family and friends of Mr Martin. His family has asked for their privacy to be respected at what is a very difficult time for them.”
